Day 52- Rolled 15 - Bridge Out
With the information Leroy’s PI uncovered Reid had been cleared of all charges and unceremoniously released from prison. His stepfather, however was taken into custody at the same time with a flurry of news coverage. Chief Conner's arrest had turned out to be an even bigger scandal than Reid's “love triangle” since he was the Police Chief, a man supposedly dedicated to upholding the law. Kaitlin was happy the spotlight was no longer on her.
When Kaitlin told Ben that Reid had been released from prison and cleared of all charges, he immediately asked, "Can I go and see him now?" hope and excitement written all over his face.
Kaitlin frowned before replying because she knew her answer wouldn't sit well. She knew Newt had been staying with Reid and didn't want to risk a chance encounter. "Not yet," she said, "Let him have time to get his affairs in order before you bother him."
"How long?" he challenged.
"I don't know Ben. How about after Reese's birthday I can check with him," she said.
"That's not fair," he mumbled looking so sad, then turned around and walked off to his room.
Kaitlin just sighed. She didn't know what else to do except let him go.
She hadn't heard anything from Newt so maybe he was back in Roaring Heights trying to get his ‘job situation' worked out or maybe he was still at Reid's waiting on her to make the next move. She had no idea. Right now she was focused on Reese’s birthday. After his birthday, if she hadn't heard from Newt, she would make Leroy happy and ask him to find an attorney to draw up divorce papers. Then she would make Ben happy and call Reid for him like she promised. She had a plan.
(A/N: Sam looks just like Daddy Reese in this picture! Awww)
Reese didn't want a typical teen party since he really didn't have a lot friends anymore. If he wasn't working or going to school, he was home with Brooke and the boys. So they decided to go out to the Karaoke bar to celebrate. Just the family - well except for the three little ones.
The sitter was scheduled to arrive any minute so they could leave. Ben was still sulking and decided to test the boundaries, “Can we invite Reid?” he asked.
Kaitlin considered his request for all of three seconds. There was no way Leroy and Reid would want to be at that party together and if Newt was still there with him, well that was definitely a no. Kaitlin sighed. “No Ben, this party is for family," she said trying to come up with a reason he couldn't dispute.
“He IS family, he's my Uncle," he countered.
Kaitlin's mouth dropped open and she felt the blood drain from her face, "What?" she asked.
"I heard you tell Reese. So why can't he come?" asked Ben again.
Holy crap, she thought and then tried to pull herself together. "Ben, it's just for our immediate family," she tried to reason.
"Leroy and Brooke aren't family and they are going," he said defiantly.
Kaitlin was done with his game. "Look, Reid isn't invited. Period. I don't want to hear another word about it," she said trying to put and end to the conversation.
"Fine, then I'm not going," spat out Ben.
“Good, then I won’t have to hire a sitter. Babysit or go. Your choice,” said Kaitlin. He was becoming such a little snot and it frustrated her to no end.
“Whatever, I'll go,” he retorted.
“Good decision. And I expect you to be on your best behavior. It's your brother's birthday and I don't want any trouble from you. Don't mess it up,” warned Kaitlin. Dr. Shea said his behavior was likely typical preteen hormones causing the moodiness and as he ‘caught up emotionally’ with his bodies changes, he would calm down. Regardless, it was hard to watch her once sweet little boy become so combative.
Party at the Party Warehouse. Happy 18th birthday Reese!

Figures he would run away (or bike away, in this case). I never really liked Ben, so it was satisfying to see the brat get called a snot for once. Chances are, he's heading to Reid's. On another note, Reese is finally becoming a man with his new facial hair! That's pretty exciting! And we only have a few chapters left, yay! Sorry for jumping all over the place in the comment, I just have a lot say!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yep - Ben's biking away! He has been a bit bratty lately. Always wants attention. So you may not like the next chapter! We will find out where he's going. It's the catalyst for a few other events.
DeleteAnd you noticed Reese's little bit of stubble! I figured he deserved to look a little 'manlier' now that he's 18. He's actually a young adult in my game now. :)
Ohhh Ben stirring up some drama augh!
ReplyDeleteJust a little! 😈 Every little boy has to run away from home at least once right?
DeleteOh, well, can't blame him for that one...Even thought I understand his way of thinking, and the way he is acting is mostly influenced by his family, I still am not very fond of him...I bet he is going to Newt, or Reid, and again, they may make him stay at home, and he will be an angsty teen, or, he may go live with Newt, and this could be another season. with another story...Even thought I would like to see how Maddy and the other childrem ended up, with time.
ReplyDeleteYes - you will find out where he is going in the next chapter. I have no idea if I will continue with him, although it could very well be another season! Angsty Ben grows up! The epilogue will be several years later.
DeleteOooh Ben's off on his own and the bRIDGE IS OUT
ReplyDeletehe's either going to be trapped in on the other side or he'll be stuck in the rain. Yikes.
I wonder if Newt's with Reid? If Ben's off to see Reid and Newt's with him, I wonder how Newt will react to Ben's behavior. He's turned over a new leaf so maybe he'll be able to talk it out with him and tell Kate he's fine or something?
Ooh, but then how will Kate react to the news? :s
Ohhhh....so many possibilities! And you didn't miss the little tidbit about the bridge! So how will the bridge being out affect this - or will it? 😈
DeleteReese is all grown up. We have a new trouble maker in the family now. Poor Ben, I hope that he feels happier soon.
ReplyDeleteLol. How true! Reset was the troublemaker before, getting tomfights and having unprotected sex! He has effectively passed the torch to Ben!
DeleteI don't know if I'm more irritated at Ben for being a little snot, or Kaitlin for once again kicking his problems down the road, or Shea for giving problematic advice.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. Everyone's missing the boat on this one! Shea is probably right, but she needs to tell her to talk to him, not fight with him! Frustrating!
DeleteI am not at all mad at Ben, honestly. I'm mad at all the adults in this house just taking the easy way out and ignoring him whenever he needed to be talked to. Kaitlin's parenting style is so fit for small children but "because I said so!" only works up to a certain age. They all had so many openings to talk to Ben but chose not to and now he's a brat for wanting to be acknowldeged? I don't buy that.
ReplyDeleteYou got that exactly right! She is parenting him like a small child not the young man he is becoming. They totally missed the opportunities to talk to him. Kaitlin just doesn't understand why he is acting out. Hopefully she figures that out sooner than later for Ben's sake.
DeleteOh goodness...I feel for Ben. I wonder where he's going.
ReplyDeletePoor guy, running away from home and running to where?
