Chapter 6 - Movies

Day 6 (rolled a blank) 😏

Over the past two weeks Kaitlin had figured out the beekeeping thing and was harvesting some pretty good honey so she decided it was time for another treat. And besides the boys had been doing really well with their school work. There was a movie that Ben had mentioned so that would be the one! She still hadn't had much time to spend with the poor guy.

Ugh, movies were way more expensive than she remembered. So Kaitlin checked out the dumpster. SCORE! She found some things she could sell. Movie money taken care of!

After dinner, they all headed out. The movie theater was just around the corner so they walked, Reese pushing Maddy as always in her stroller.

While they were waiting in line, Reese stopped and motioned for his mother to come over. Then he whispered urgently to his mother, "Mom, get Ben. It's Dad! Don't look. I think Ben is going to talk to him. We have to leave!"

Kaitlin knew, hoped, that Reid was there. She looked around and relaxed and whispered back. 'No, no...it's okay Reese. That's Reid. He does look like your father doesn't he. He is the fireman that hired me to work in the firehouse. Let me introduce you."

Kaitlin called out to Reid and introduced him to her children. "Reid, this is Reese, 16 going on 21, Ben 9 and Maddy, 17 months."

"Nice to meet you all," replied Reid as he smiled at the kids. Then he looked at Kaitlin, "I have been hearing good things about your work at the firehouse. We can't thank you enough."

"You are welcome Reid," replied Kaitlin, "but it is us that owe you a debt of gratitude."

Then Ben said, "Are you my Daddy?"

"BEN! How rude!" said Kaitlin mortified once again in front of Reid.

"But Mommy, he looks..."

"Ben. Not now!" Kaitlin reprimanded.

Reid smiled at Ben, "No Ben, I most definitely am not your father."

When Ben was visibly relieved, Reid looked questioningly at Kaitlin, "So I take it there is a resemblance?" Just then the doors opened and everyone began to file inside. Kaitlin was glad for the interruption. When someone called out to Reid, he said, "Bye Katie. I will stop by the station next week and maybe you can tell me who the mystery man is." Then he winked at her. Winked! She just hoped Reese didn't see. He was busy with Maddy so she didn't think he did.

* * *

Kaitlin was glad to get home. All she could think about during the movie was the wink. She was a mess. But, other than the "are you my Daddy?" question the movie was great and the kids had a grand time. Well at least Ben did. Maddy slept in Reese's lap while he tolerated the 'kiddie' movie. She knew that now because she heard him talking to Jade on the phone.

Reese gave Maddy her bedtime bottle and then pulled out his phone to call Jade and proceeded to tell her about the stupid movie they had to go to.

Okay, thought Kaitlin, we will need to find that fishing tackle and go to the beach. Find something everyone can do before summer is over and it gets nasty outside.

    1. That would be very, very bad! He is in another town far, far away thankfully.

  4. Poor kids. It's such a relief that he isn't their father, though!
