Chapter 44 - Happy Birthday Part 3 of 3

Kaitlin had to admit, Angie did an excellent job with her ‘makeover’. She did hair, makeup and nails. She felt so pampered. Very pretty and feminine. More than she has in a long time. Every time she went to see Dr. Shea she felt so plain. Dr. Shea was beautiful and always so put together.
As she was touching up her lipstick, the buzzer sounded. Kaitlin jumped. Leroy had a key so he didn’t need to buzz in. She answered the buzzer and it was a delivery. Flowers! How sweet, she thought and sat them on the kitchen table. They were gorgeous.

Kaitlin sat down and opened the card and her face fell. They were from Reid not Leroy. She wasn’t sure she even wanted to read the card but did anyway.

‘Happy Birthday Katie. I know these flowers don’t make up for the trouble I have caused you. Just know you were definitely worth fighting for. Leroy is a good man. Did he tell you we were best friends in high school?  We were, so I know this about him. I hope the two of you are very happy. Look me up if you get bored with him. Love Always, Reid.’

The card was so sad and she wanted to cry but at the same time that she wanted to jump for joy. Was it really over? Angie said he was supposed to keep away and this sounded like he was indeed giving up and saying goodbye because he knows he is going to prison for a long time. Best Friends? Leroy never said they were friends. What happened?

She got up and went to change. She couldn’t think about Reid anymore. Right now all she wanted was to spend her birthday with Leroy.

Kaitlin pulled on her new dress and looked in the mirror again. She had splurged $200 on the dress and matching shoes. A birthday gift to herself. Everything else she had came from thrift stores. Leroy hadn’t told her where they were going just that she should dress nice and to pack an overnight bag. She couldn't wait for Leroy to see her.

When Leroy arrived he looked so handsome, but he seemed distracted and practically looked right through her seeing the flowers before her. “Who are those from?” he asked.

“Reid. He -”

“Goddamned liar!” he spat out angrily after just hearing Reid, “I knew it! He said he would back off and I almost believed that son-of-bitch! Was he here?”

Kaitlin felt herself getting scared and her heart rate sped up. She tried to remember what to do. She willed herself to touch Leroy’s arm begging him to stop with her eyes.

He looked down at her and immediately pulled her into his arms. “Ohhh shit,” he said under his breath and then started speaking softly, “Baby, it's okay. Just relax and take deep breaths. That's it.” Kaitlin forced herself to let him hold her and did what he said. After just a few minutes her heart rate went back to normal. She looked up at him and smiled weakly, his arms still wrapped around her.

“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get scared. I don't want to ruin tonight,” said Kaitlin.

Leroy looked at her and Kaitlin could tell when he really noticed her because a slow seductive smile spread over his face. “Oh, Kate, sexy Kate, God, you look amazing,” he whispered and nuzzled her neck, “Mmmm. You smell nice too.”

Kaitlin fully relaxed into his arms, “You too,” she said then noticed the card she still held in her hand. She pulled back and handed it to Leroy, “Here babe, please, read this.”

Leroy frowned but took the card without comment and read it.

His frown turned into a huge grin. “Well, I'll be damned. Maybe he wasn't kidding.” Then he looked at Kaitlin like he wanted to devour her and pulled her into his arms again. "Mmmm. My Sexy Kate. Let's go before I forget about my plans and take you right now in the shower! It would be a shame to ruin your beautiful dress...”

“Leroy! Ah stop it!” she giggled when his hands slid lower and he squeezed her butt, "and Leroy, can we please not talk about Reid tonight?"
“Who’s Reid?” asked Leroy grinning. He released her and grabbed her hand and ceremoniously kissed it. "Your chariot awaits sexy Kate."

    1. Thanks. They needed the time alone. It was sort of their first date! And they have been together for awhile now. So sad.

    1. For their sanity for sure. And no doubt that it helped their relationship. I think it was probably good for Kaitlin too. She's never been treated like she is treasured before and Leroy tried really hard to show her the depth of his feelings for her.

    1. He done good for sure. Probably the best ever Birthday. Remember Reids birthday...she was already pregnant but didn't know it. His seemed more manipulative - this was all for her.
